Photo Tips for Custom Products

The photo you upload is the heart of your personalized product—and the better the photo, the better the final result. Follow these quick tips to make sure your image is just right, whether you’re ordering a photo-based item or custom illustrated artwork.

GOOD

• Eye-level angle: Take the photo with your pet facing the camera straight on, at their eye level (not from above or below). Whether your pet is sitting, standing, or lying down, make sure the neck is visible.

• Bright lighting: Use natural daylight or a well-lit room. Avoid dim spaces, harsh shadows, or strong backlighting (like sitting in front of a window).

• Clear face & neck: Your pet’s entire face and neck should be fully visible, sharp, and not cut off or hidden in shadow.

BAD

• Blurry photo: Image is not sharp or in focus, making details unclear.

• Poor lighting: Taken in a dim area, so the face and coat look dull.

• Wrong angle: Shot from above instead of eye level, distorting proportions.

• Neck not visible: Chest/neck area is hidden against the floor.

• Cut-off features: One ear is cropped off.

BAD

• Wrong angle: Shot from above, not at eye level.

• Poor lighting: Very dim/backlit, creating heavy shadows.

• Features lost: Eyes and muzzle fall into shadow, expression unclear.

• Neck not clear: Angle compresses the chest/neck so it isn’t well defined.

• Lack of contrast: Fur blends into the background, so the face doesn’t stand out.

WILL I SEE A PREVIEW BEFORE YOU PRINT MY PRODUCT?

To keep orders moving quickly, we don’t send previews.

• Photo cases: We print directly from your uploaded image, making small adjustments if needed so it looks its best.

• Illustrated cases: Our artists hand-draw from your photo—no proof needed.

We accept 98% of photos! If there’s ever an issue, we’ll contact you so you can send another. Every piece is made with care, and our customers love the final result.

WHAT IF I'M NOT SURE IF MY PHOTO WILL WORK?

Email us! We’ll review it and let you know. Many customers order portraits of pets who’ve passed, so we understand you may not have the perfect shot. Upload your photo at checkout, then email support@allgsdgifts.com so we can reference it.

WILL THE ACCESSORIES MY DOG IS WEARING SHOW?

• Photo products: Yes—collars, bandanas, etc. will appear.

• Illustrated products: We may remove backgrounds or distractions for the best look.
